Mason is My Home.
(and will be ’til I kick the bucket!)

My name is Shannon Worrell, and I am honored to announce my candidacy for Mason County Judge. For over five generations, my family has called Mason County home. From working the land on our ranch to serving on the school board, church committees, and community organizations, my life has been deeply rooted in the values that define this community: faith, family, hard work, and service.
At the heart of everything I do is my family. I have been blessed to be married to my soulmate, James Worrell, for 30 years this coming summer. Together, our greatest accomplishment is raising our son, Jarrett, who is now a freshman at Mason High School. My family is my foundation, and they remind me daily why protecting Mason County’s future matters so much.
While I honor our past, I know we must prepare for the future. Mason County faces challenges: managing growth, maintaining infrastructure, supporting public safety, and protecting our rural way of life. I also believe it is critical that Mason County has an active voice at the state capitol. As your County Judge, I will work to ensure that our county is represented, protected, and positioned to seize opportunities that benefit our citizens and our local economy.
Mason County deserves leadership grounded in legacy and tradition, but focused on solutions that prepare us for tomorrow. My pledge is simple: I will lead with transparency, integrity, and a heart for service.
Together, we can protect what makes Mason County special while building a bright and sustainable future for generations to come.
I humbly ask for your support and your vote as the next Mason County Judge.
Sincerely, Shannon Worrell

I attended the townhall meeting for Congressman August Pluger today. It was encouraging to hear him recognize the Mason Junior High Kind Club for setting such a positive example in our community — what an inspiring group of young leaders!
There was plenty of spirited discussion about the state of our nation, and I appreciate seeing folks from Mason County show up, speak up, and stay engaged. Civic participation and respectful conversation are the foundation of strong local government — and I’m proud to be part of a community that values both.

I’m working hard to earn your vote for Mason County Judge — and I promise to work just as hard when I become County Judge (just manifesting here 😉).
I spent some time today at the Mason County Clerk’s Office, learning more about the processes that keep our county running smoothly. From public records to elections, the Clerk’s Office plays a vital role in maintaining transparency and accountability in county government.
I’m continually reminded of how important it is to understand every piece of how our county operates — because strong leadership starts with knowing how to serve.

It was an honor to be the Winning Wednesday guest speaker for the Mason Cowgirls basketball team this week! These young women are learning that winning is a choice—a choice made every day through discipline, teamwork, and heart.
We talked about showing up for practice, supporting each other, working hard in the classroom, and representing Mason with pride on and off the court. Their energy, determination, and sisterhood remind me why I’m so proud to call Mason home.
Let’s all take a page from the Cowgirls’ playbook this week—show up, work hard, and make winning choices. 💪

I have been getting questions that seem to be very repetivitive in nature, so I will start addressing them in a regular post. So here is the first one...
What exactly does a County Judge do?
In Texas, the County Judge isn’t what most people think of when they hear the word “judge.”
In counties like Mason, the County Judge is the chief executive officer of the county — part administrator, part community leader, and yes, sometimes still a judge.
🏛️ Leading the County’s Business
The County Judge presides over the Commissioners Court, which is the county’s governing board.
Together, the Judge and four Commissioners make decisions that affect roads, budgets, law enforcement, emergency services, and county facilities — the things that keep Mason County running every single day.
It’s a big responsibility: balancing the budget, managing taxpayer dollars wisely, and making sure every decision is rooted in common sense, fairness, and accountability.
⚖️ Serving Justice Locally
In smaller Texas counties, the County Judge may also hear certain court cases — things like probate matters, small civil cases, and mental health hearings.
That judicial responsibility brings another layer of service: being fair, listening well, and following the law.
🚨 Protecting the County in Emergencies
The County Judge is also the Emergency Management Director, leading the local response when disaster strikes — from wildfires to floods to public health issues.
That means coordinating with law enforcement, first responders, and state agencies to protect lives and property.
🤝 Representing Mason County at state and national levels.
The Judge represents Mason County at the state and national levels, working to make sure our community’s voice is heard.
But more than that, the County Judge is a neighbor, listener, and advocate — someone who works every day to make Mason County a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
💬 In Simple Terms
The County Judge keeps Mason County running smoothly, protects our people in emergencies, manages your tax dollars responsibly, and works to build a stronger future for the next generation.
I look forward to being your next Mason County Judge! ... See MoreSee Less

Today I had the pleasure of spending time at our Mason County Eckert Memorial Library with some wonderful ladies- both true treasures of our community. From children discovering their first stories to adults using resources to learn and connect, this library represents what Mason does best: investing in knowledge, curiosity, and one another.
Our library isn’t just a building full of books — it’s a gathering place that keeps our small-town spirit alive and thriving. Thank you to the dedicated staff and volunteers who make it such a welcoming and enriching place for everyone!

National First Responders Day!
Today we pause to honor the men and women who run toward danger when the rest of us are running away — our firefighters, EMS crews, dispatchers, and law enforcement officers.
Mason County is blessed with incredible first responders who serve with courage, compassion, and commitment — often as volunteers, always as neighbors. They’re the ones who show up in the middle of the night, in the heat of summer, and in the worst of storms.
To every first responder who protects our families, our homes, and our community — thank you.
Your dedication reminds us what true service looks like.
Let’s all take a moment today to say thank you when you see a first responder, and to keep them and their families in our prayers. 💙

Well… I can officially add “Brisket Auctioneer” to my résumé! 😄
Had a great time helping raise money for the Mason Education Foundation at their annual Giving Luncheon and Grant Showcase— and let me tell you, bidding got as smoky as the brisket! 🔥🥩
The Mason Education Foundation does incredible work providing grants and classroom resources that directly benefit our kids and teachers. Their support helps make sure every Mason student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. 📚💜
Thank you again to everyone who came out, donated, and supported this cause. Mason’s future is bright because of the people who invest their time, hearts, and yes… even their brisket money! 🙌
